FAQs
Mulyavardhan is a proven, research-based academic initiative for enabling schools to impart values
education in a structured manner. It is aligned to the values enshrined in the Preamble to the
Constitution of India and the competencies identified in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF)
2023. It is based on the latest research in the domain of Social, Emotional and Ethical Development
(SEED).
Enabling children to develop values is an integral part of the aim of school education. Values
education is required to ensure that children become responsible, caring and productive adults who
contribute to the well-being of all. The need for values education is heightened by contemporary
challenges like increased competition and the influence of social media. Values education can help
children deal with these and other challenges in the present and future, in a positive way. While
children do ‘catch’ values from their families and neighbourhoods, the school environment provides
opportunities for inculcating and imbibing values in a planned and assessable manner.
Mulyavardhan is based on two decades of experience and the latest global research in values
education. It has been adopted in thousands of schools, which have reported a range of benefits.
Positive outcomes of Mulyavardhan have also been established by research studies. Mulyavardhan’s
child-centered, joyful, constructivist, activity-based pedagogy is aligned to the National
Curriculum Framework (2023) and curricular outcomes for language, environmental and social studies.
The cooperative learning, cooperative games and classroom management strategies used in Mulyavardhan
can be adopted by teachers for the teaching and learning of other subjects. These are some of the
key factors to consider when choosing Mulyavardhan vis-à-vis values education books available in the
market.
During 2016-20, Mulyavardhan was implemented in nearly 70,000 government primary schools in the
states of Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat. The Government of Goa has taken a policy decision to
implement Mulyavardhan in all schools up to Grade 8. Schools run by Veerayatan in Bihar and Gujarat,
Vidya Bharti Schools in Gujarat and Goa, several schools of the Federation of Jain Educational
Institutes (FJEI) in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, schools under the umbrella of the
Archdiocesan Board of Education in Goa, and many other private schools are implementing
Mulyavardhan.
Mulyavardhan‘s core component comprises grade-wise structured activities, to be organized in the
classroom by designated teachers. Content related to the activities is provided through colourful
books for students and teachers. In addition to Mulyavardhan classroom activities, schools may adopt
the Mulyavardhan “whole school” approach.
Our offering for classroom activities includes the following:
• Four-colour activity books for students and teachers
• Training of teachers to conduct Mulyavardhan activities
• One school visit followed by need-based refresher training
• Online support through WhatsApp groups and virtual meetings
Mulyavardhan activity books for Grades 1 to 4 are currently available in English, Marathi and
Konkani. Activity books for Grades 5 to 8 are available in English. Activity books for Grades 1 to 5
are being developed in Hindi.
As mentioned earlier, Mulyavardhan activities are aligned to the pedagogical approach and
competencies specified in the NCF 2023. Mulyavardhan activity books have been reviewed and approved
by SCERT, Goa, and other experts.
For each Grade/Class, we recommend conduct of Mulyavardhan activities in 2-3 sessions per week (35-45
minutes per session). As the activities are aligned to curricular learning outcomes of languages and
environmental/social studies, time-table allotment may be made within the time given for these
subjects.
Class teachers or teachers of languages/EVS/social studies may be designated to conduct Mulyavardhan
activities after they have received requisite training.
Initially, our trainers conduct in-person training for groups of teachers. This training is given
over a period of 18 hours. In the second year, on-site refresher training is provided over a period
of 6 hours. In subsequent years, training is provided online. The training is designed to
familiarize teachers with the Mulyavardhan content and pedagogy. All training is conducted in a
lively, interactive mode.
The long-term goal of Mulyavardhan is that children become responsible, caring, democratic citizens.
In the short or immediate term, children will:
• Demonstrate more responsible and caring behaviour
• Develop self-awareness and self-management skills
• Develop critical thinking, problem solving and other higher order thinking skills
• Show marked improvement in their language and social skills
• Perform better in school due to the above
Teachers will begin to reflect more about values in their interactions with students. They will
nurture a classroom environment that encourages children to exercise self-discipline, help each
other and learn better. Teachers can use Mulyavardhan’s pedagogy for the teaching and learning of
scholastic subjects more effectively.
Schools will see improved self-discipline among students and fewer instances of disruptive
behaviour. The school environment will support joyful and deep learning. As a result of positive
changes seen in students, the school’s reputation will improve.
Parents and caregivers will experience more responsible and caring behaviour by children.
Mulyavardhan home activities will improve relations between caregivers and children.
The Mulyavardhan activity books include assessment tools which will help teachers generate holistic
progress cards for every student, as prescribed in NCF 2023.
